Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all, we were having some issues on idle with our 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix (3.8L engine, not supercharged) and discovered it's either the engine coolant temp sensor or the connector. We thought it was the ECT and disconnected it to test to see if our 19mm socket was long enough, then reconnected it, and once we did the problem went away, so clearly it's either the ECT or the connection.

We can replace the ECT just fine but cannot find ANY instructions on how to replace the connector. Can anyone help please? Thanks!

Replacing a part of your wire harness or connectors involves a higher degree of skill than a bolt on part, try looking on YouTube for vids on this type of repair. You'll likely need to solder wiring and/or pins within the connector, and having a multimeter so you can check for continuity is a must. You can also see how large the wire harness is that this connector belongs to, if it's fairly small and can be separated from the engine harness then replacing that part of the harness is an option.

I already looked for instructions on YouTube and elsewhere but couldn't find any, which is why I asked here. I thought I made that clear. Not sure what makes you think I'm a newbie but I'm not. You gonna ask me if I have screwdrivers, too? Wanna see my pliers?

Well, do you have any screwdrivers? Lighten up. This person was trying to help and your note gives no hints to your capabilities. By the way, good answer "KenF".
