Why does overdrive stick

What does it when it sticks in overdrive and have to
pull over turn off car and then restart car and it's
fine. What does this mean?

Most likely it's the TCC (Tourque Converter Clutch) solenoid. It was a common failure point for GM transmissions in those days. A reputable transmission shop can replace it for you at a reasonable cost. Hope that helps! Jim
