2005 Pontiac Grand AM wont shift into park and the key is stuck in the ignition! Why?

The wheel turns and the car shifts to everything
else normally. What's going on?

The key will not come out of the ignition because you can not get the transmission into park. The transmission cable probably needs adjusting. Look to see that the D on the shift counsel lines up, that the shift lever is in the right location in reference to the "D" for drive. If not then it needs to be adjusted, checked out.
