Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 1998 Pontiac Grand Am Gt V6. When I try
starting it it only stays on if I have foot on gas
pedal but shuts off when I let go of gas pedal.
What could possibly be the issue?

I changed the spark plugs and oil and oil filters yesterday. Yes my check engine light is on but sometimes that light turns off and sometimes it comes back on

Sounds like you Idle air control valve to me. You can pull it off and try cleaning it with brake clean. Sometimes they just stick. I would also clean the throttle body when you are in there. That can also help.

Hey I'm back, so I changed my plugs and oil chang and didn't start. For some reason I decided to tap the fuel filter for about a minute and wow it starts right up and ran til last night. My question is do I need to do anything special before taking off the fuel filter?
