Asked by Aug 17, 2014 at 10:53 PM about the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, and the motor is knocking on it. I found a 1999 Montero for sale. Is it possible for me to swap engines? Is it compatible?

Call your local Auto Recycler and ask them. They have all the info on their software etc. if they don't give up the info freely , offer to come in and pay $5.

Anything is possible if you're willing to move stuff around a bit & or modify motor mounts & trans support. Nothing is "bolt-in" unless it's the EXACT same thing. I swapped a 427" for my 396" in a Camaro once. The 427 Vette' oil pan didn't fit. I had to use the old 396 pan. Similar problems with the water pump too, see?
