My windows are stuck open just a little bit, how do I get them up?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

3 out of 4 of my windows don't go up or down.  The back passenger side
window is stuck down about 2 inches, so you always have the window sound
or a wet back seat.  The back driver side is stuck about 1", this one I was
able to grab the glass and pull it up.  It stayed that way for about a week and
fell back to 1" open.  Using the driver controls, you can hear the motor on the
driver side, but no noise is made on either of the passenger side.  How do I
know if it's a motor problem or regulator problem?  3 windows to have them
repaired cost more than the car is worth.  I would just like to get them closed
if possible.  The car ALWAYS starts and mechanically it's sound, but
everything from the door handles to the indicator lights, are all whacky or
breaking from being brittle.  I replaced the airbags and put springs in and
that was quite the chore.  I don't want to get into another one of these, "it's a
15 min job" deals from YouTube, tearing apart the doors.  I just would like the
windows up or figure out why they don't work?  I'd hate to replace the motors
and regulators then find out.....it was a fuse.

Inside the window motor, there are hard rubber balls that probably disintegrated. They do that after 25, 30 years. I recommend rebuilding the window motors you have by replacing those balls. You can find videos on youtube. The new window motors from China are absolute garbage. We had to do this job on our 89. It's easy with the videos.
