Fuel Pump on Lincoln Town Car.

Asked by Randall Feb 03, 2020 at 09:05 PM about the 1994 Lincoln Town Car Cartier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My question is how can the fuel pump overheat when the fuel in the tank is below 32
degrees. Doesn't the fuel cool the pump?   My fuel level in the tank is 3/4 full.  The
fuel pump and tank are a year old when I replaced both.  The message code on the
dash reads CO.

Your Lincoln is an OBD I vehicle. You need to use a scan tool that's compatible with OBD I Ford vehicles. Hope that helps! Jim

If the pump is not pushing enough fuel through it it will not cool properly... if it is a one-way fuel system check the fuel pump control module for problems If it has a return line system then check the pressure regulator to be sure it is not stuck partially open causing the pump to work harder or stuck partially closed slowing the fuel and over pressuring the pump causing strain and heat
