My 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overheats when I am in stand still traffic, but goes back down to normal once I enter the expressway or are constantly moving. I just ourchased it about a month ago, so I am not sure. However, I do hear the fans come on, and the air blows ice cold on the freeway, but only warm in normal traffic. I'm wondering if the fans are bad, or if the thermostat needs to be changed.
I would change the thermostat, flush the entire system twice with a good flush, and have water pump tested as well as the fan sensor to see if it is coming on at the correct temp that should be about 210 to 230 degrees..
