WHEN DO I USE THE OVERDRIVE BUTTON IN A 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4X4
always drive with overdrive on for better fuel econony, only turn it of for towing or extra pulling power
Light on/OD is off. Light off/OD is on.
if it is pushed in then its on meaning, you will have gear 1-2-3 and no OD (4), with it off unpressed in it means ur tranny will shift to 4th or overdrive...
same thing as a tow/haul button in a gm truck, if light is on then your od is disengaged and vise versa. the overdrive gears are specificly made to increase gas mileage and decrease load on the engine through gear multiplication (engine uses less revs to turn the driveline the same speed at a lower gear. use it when towing, and leave it off for better fuel economy
Helpful info. I bought a 1993 Grand Cherokee Limited in June 2008. It was built in their Canadian factory, so my owners manual is in French. :)
