1996 Grand Cherokee ignition loss

Asked by Jul 29, 2016 at 10:34 AM about the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The Cherokee was running fine, no problems.  Came home, turned it off.
Now it won't start.  Found the ignition coil housing cracked - replaced it.
Cap and rotor replaced as well.  When the key is turned on there is battery
voltage going to the coil.  There is a click in the fuse block and the voltage
goes away.  Checked relays and found no problems.  Tried bypassing
relays with voltage directly from the battery, Shortened the mounting bolts
on the PCM.  Still will not start. What else could be the problem.

1 Answer

Well after trying to bypass every switch, sensor, relay under the hood, didn't start. Replaced the PCM, didn't start. Replaced the Crankshaft position sensor, eureka!!! finally it started.
