How can I tell if my thermostat is any good

clean it up.. boil water in a pot. put in the thermostat. it should open up & close when removed. if not, it is broken.

let the vehicle run to normal working temp, then feel the two radiator hoses, if the feeling temp is not the same then your thermostat isnt opening.
