I have an 06 Taurus SEL, same thing happened to me yesterday. Even though it's not flex fuel the owners manual shows location of flex fuel associated fuse. I disconnected battery, checked fuse, it was good. put it back and reconnected my battery. Started engine, fuel gauge works again! Maybe it just needed a reboot, much like a frozen computer. Good luck.
