Any engine would knock and rattle without oil pressure! I hope you're not driving around like this - that engine is going to be toast fast! A mechanic will have to look at motor to see why there is no oil pressure.

The sending unit only reports the oil pressure to the oil pressure gauge or light and has NOTHING to do with how much oil pressure the engine is making. Sounds like either the engine is shot or the oil pickup screen is plugged with debris.

The fact the engine is knocking and rattling would seem to indicate it really may be low on oil pressure. A mechanical gauge would confirm that. I wouldn't chance driving or running motor in the meantime. Some auto parts stores loan out tools, you may be able to get a gauge and test it yourself. Problem may be internal to engine tho, but check the oil filter - make sure it didn't blow a seal. Sometimes when changing a filter the old gasket material from previous filter remains stuck to engine and new filter is put on over it, which can impair a good seal.
