What causes a car to pull itself when you break?

Yesterday I went to put gas into my car and when I was
waiting to make a left turn my car just suddenly turned off.
No warning.. no nothing. I freaked out for a second but I
turned it on and it was okay after but now it's starting to
make this awful noise like if something is cranking from the
bottom of the truck I'm not too sure exactly where it comes
from but it pulls really bad when I break and it turns off(not
everytime time) it's just really random when it pulls when I
break. Could it be the tranny that's giving up? It has 150k
miles on it I drive it every day... the battery is good it's new
just got it a couple months ago.
