i have an 02 explorer and theres a banging in the rear is it the u joint?

it starts when i let off the gas. its constant but it does not speed up or slow down even if i
do. it will stop when i slow down below 15 mph but if i let off the gas again it starts

have it properly inspected with a Garage lift that can examine the free play in the drivetrain and would instantly spot a disconnected/faulty u-joint~

I agree with the judge. Also look under there for someone playing games with you. Friend of mine tied cans to my driveshaft once and damn what a bad joke that was. Sounds as if the whole back end was falling off. He also on another a cation put large plastic Ty raps around the drive shaft. Not a major noise but very noticeable. Hopefully your friends aren't pranksters.

Take the advice of judge here. Have it checked by a mechanic. They are not hard to change for anyone who has gotten greasy a couple of times, but definitely not a job for someone whose tool box only contains a 19.95 wrench set from Craftsman.
