I have a 1993 Ford Escort and I can't turn the car off. the key is stuck in the ignition and won' turn backward, it's stuck in the on position. I can start my car but can't shut it off unless I unplug a cable or disconnect the battery. What the heck is going on? I've tried everything I can think of to try to unlock the ignition.... NO LUCK!!! Please help me

Get the engine off. Disconnect the battery. Open up the steering column so that the ignition switch is exposed. Get a paper clip and straight it out. Look around the ignition switch for a small hole. Insert the the paper clip in the hole. Turn the key and pull gently. The ignition assembly should slide right out. Now you can get a replacement or use a screwdriver to start and shut off the engine.
