2003 Silverado 5.3 transmission problem
I had question I have a 03 Silverado
5.3l and I'm having transmission
problem it won't shift to 3rd and high
rpms that was today, yesterday it
was changing to all shifts only
problem was it was with high rpm
and it said transmission hot then I
stop let it cool down then I took off
again and it was running good for
about 15 min and then it started to
go slow I was going 70mph and I
could only go around 50 and I stop
and checked trans fluid and there
was a little of fluid in it I put two
bottles of trans fluid and took off and
I could only go 50mph or less today I
went to a guy that fixes trans and
told me it doesn't go to over drive
and he has to rebuild the whole
transmission is it true ?
I'm not looking at the trans, but based on your descriptions, there is probably some internal damage to some of the components. How many miles on the transmission, over 120K? If you were low on fluid, that tells me there is a leak, and running low on fluid overheating the transmission is a bad thing. Then yes, your mechanic is right, parts need to be replaced, and when your replacing some parts, you usually replace all the parts so they can warranty the work, so a full rebuild is necessary. HTH's.
Thanks tom for the info And I appreciate your help and my truck has 203k miles
It also could be a electrical problem. my 94 W/T would not shift also turns out there is a computer that tells the transmission when to shift look at that before you spend $1800.00 on a new tranny. forget a rebuild.
Check the color and smell of your fluid. a dark(almost black) indicates a burnt out 3-4 clutch pack. A red and oil smell would indicate an electronic issue.
Hi, could anyone give me an honest answer I just put in a used engine in my Chevy Silverado 2003 5.3 the mechanic said the gears are not shifting 3rd and 4th but it shifts whenit wants to. He did change the transmission oil because the old one was pretty dirty any help would help My email is firstname.lastname@example.org my name is Enrique
