Heater blowing Luke warm air but never gets hots?

Asked by Guru9DKD39 Nov 11, 2020 at 03:03 AM about the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 Chevy 5.3 liter pickup heater started fluctuating warm air and cool air!
I drained antifreeze and flushed it out, changed out the thermostat which was
missing about a 3/4 of inch piece of rubber seal! Refilled radiator and bottle
and drove it about 35 miles on freeway and had heater on high the whole time
but it only blew out Luke warm air , steady but not hot air! What else should I
check for the problem?

I've had this same issue on another type of vehicle. It turned out to be the "blend door". It is mounted near the heater core up under the dash. It is controlled by a motor that adjusts its position according to the temperature setting you select. It can close off the air to / from the core or open it up partially as needed to match your temperature setting in the cab. On mine, the door was broken halfway off and we ended up with lukewarm to cool air all the time. I had to go through the glove box (cutting a hole in the back of it and replace the door arm assembly mounted on the blend-door motor shaft). That was on a Jeep. Better than pulling the whole dash out!
