2004 Monte Carlo

Asked by db0127 May 03, 2018 at 09:11 AM about the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo LS with 150K miles. When started it will go a few
miles and the temp gauge gets to the red line. Then after driving further drops
to 50% where it stays. Thermostat has been replaced and I haven't noticed
any coolant leaking. But the wife did add coolant weekly. Auto shop says the
block is cracked but "could" also be the radiator. Since they were not
confident in the problem I'm struggling to decided if I should replace the
radiator or not.

I hate to say this but a block don't mean radiator. Your engine block is cracked from overheating when your temperature gauge redlined.

There is a temp sencer on the car replace it you will be fine 3.4 and the 3.8 has that sencer
