Car wont start, security flashing 2001 monte carlo

Asked by Jun 08, 2015 at 10:41 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car wont start at all. At first I checked
alternator, starter, battery and fuses. All are
good then I light tested the ignition wires
and I get power from the ignition switch but
not receivin anything to the ignition wire on
the starter. A buddy of mine suggested
jumping the wire from the switch to the
starter, it now cranks but doesn't want to
turn over. Was working fine on monday then
it shut off when I left to pick up my kid. They
said to check the theft deterrent relay but I
have no idea where that is. If someone can
help that will be greatly appreciated thanks!

When you turn the ignition to the start position a "starter request signal" is sent to the BCM (Body Control Module). The body control module then energies starter. Sounds like the anti-theft module is no longer recognizing the transponder key. Jumping connections is not a good idea! Speak with your local Chevy Dealer. I believe that your Monte Carlo is under recall for the ignition switch. HTH. -Jim
