change ignition

Asked by Q Feb 06, 2007 at 12:26 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I want to change the ignition due to loss of keys

1 Answer

If you call a chevy dealer near you they can probably recut and recode keys to fit into your car. Even if someone else finds your keys and knows your car the ignition will have been recoded for your new keys so the old ones will not work. However, it might be cheaper to change the ignition. Here is link to find the parts. I don't know if you have an LS or an SS but follow the steps to find what you need and how much it will cost. http://www.automotive.com/auto-parts/117/chevrolet/1996/monte-carlo/index.html
