Asked by Guru9RQ6RL Aug 07, 2022 at 09:47 PM about the 2006 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: General

I was changing the oil on my 06 Camry and after i let the oil settle i pulled the
dipstick to check the level of the oil and when i pulled it out the plastic measure
tip broke off inside the tube should i drain the oil, is there a mesh or filter that
keeps object from falling in from the dip tube that will keep the plastic piece
from coming out when draining ?

You can try draining the oil and see if the piece comes out. Or you can remove the dipstick tube, there's usually 1 bolt holding it in place. Some oil will probably spill out so have your drain pan ready. If you can get to the broken off piece, pull it out with a pick tool or something similar. But if you can't get it, there's a screen on the bottom of the oil pump pick up that'll prevent the piece from getting sucked into the oil pump. Hope that helps! Jim

I wouldn't worry about it too much, it will eventually come out when u drain the oil out and if not, it probably got stuck on the pan body or in the oil pump filter. If i doesn't come out and want to get it out, u'll have to drop the oil pan to get to it.
