Car suddenly stalling

Asked by Guru6KN5K Mar 28, 2020 at 05:38 AM about the 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, my 1989 IROC Camaro has started to shut down suddenly while driving. Just after, the car is able to start with no trouble. it's quite unsafe to have the steering and brakes stop functioning normally. Any suggestions as to where to look first?

Also, check the ECM for trouble codes. Even if the service engine soon light is not coming on. Look for a trouble code telling you that the PCM has lost the fuel enable signal from the BCM (body control module). If the PCM loses the fuel enable signal it will shut down the engine, even if you're driving! Hope that helps! Jim
