2006 Chrysler pt cruiser windshield wiper work intermittently.  Sometime it will work and some time it will not

How can you tell what kind it is. whether it is a mechanical or a soft selector.

never mind. I'm just confused. the wiper switch is down in the steering column. Gonna ask you to fish out the schematic to identify the wire connectors and possible location, so we can begin testing, where's the 12V signal...
