Transmission won't change gears

I have a 2001 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado 4 wheel
drive and it will not go any further than second
gear what can I do about this

I am a do it yourself mechanic and my brother had a shifting problem with his chevrolet 4X4 . The transmission has solenoids found after removing the oil pan. The solenoid was replaced and the transmission shifts perfectly.
