Will a starter for a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo fit on a
2004? They're the same make, model and engine.

I compared starter part numbers and the answer is no they won't interchange. AC Delco starter for 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is #3371078, and for the 2004 it is #3371184. This is for the 4.0 liter engine. Maybe shop Ebay with that first number. They really don't cost much.
