Y does it take forever to pump gas

When I pump gas it only lets me put about 3 dollars in then it fills the neck up
and shuts off the pump. What could cause this.

This is usually a vent problem. Have you tried only inserting the nozzle an inch or so, instrad of in as far as it goes?
