BFC draining battery

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 Grand Am SE1 Got the car used. Had plain key, all metal. No remote
entry fob (car is equipped with key less entry) receiver under rear shelf and
the factory stereo replaced with aftermarket one, they didn't use a
conversion harness and/or adapter module. They cut the factory plug off and
hard wired the unit in. When I tried to start it, it though I was stealing it. I
used the 2.2k resistor trick, it starts most of the time. There is an 160 ma
parasitic drain on the battery from the BFC fuse, even when its asleep. What
functions does the BFC control/monitor. Only security or lights, a/c, ect.  Dan

BFC is body control module. So the problem could be bad module that won't go to sleep OR it could be a problem with one of the inputs to the BCM that's keeping it awake. You'll need a digital multimeter and a shop manual with really good wiring diagrams to diagnose this problem. Try Alldata or Eautrorepair for online manuals (they're pro grade manuals and not free).
