car stalls after a few miles and turns off

Asked by aby Jun 27, 2011 at 08:29 AM about the Mitsubishi Galant

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've been having the same problem for about a year now. My car has been giving me idling trouble. The car stalls and dies after driving two or three miles. I've changed the idle air control sensor about a year ago and worked fine for about 6 months and started to act up again. So I changed mass air control sensor about three times and it worked for about 3 months but now I having the same issue. If I disconnect the mass air control sensor it does not turn off but it runs rough and idles at 1500 rpms. If anyone can help would be greatly appreciated

Obviously you replaced the MAF enough. It sounds more like a fuel injector (which can be cleaned for around 80 bucks for the whole engine) or the coils are bad. Diagnosing this can be tricky because it can be many different things, your best bet is to find a good mechanic and have him diagnose it. The reason the car idles rough is because you took off the MAF and its missing a sensor and probably a vacuum hose for backpressure.

I have a mitsubishi galant 1990 , 1800 engine if I start it and leave it running it will runs ok but if I drive for some 3 or 2 miles it stall. When it does stall I try starting it but engine won't start it only turn over. And when I let it cool down it will start. Think that's the gas pump causing this or d c-coil
