I have a 1999 mercury cougar 2 door V6 engine. My question is, Do I have to take the motor out to get to the oil pan? It is leaking a little and a guy at the garage told me it would cost $1500 dollars to fix the oil pan leak. Really? Please help.

Does the guy at the garage know the difference between a "Leak" and normal "Seepage"? Oil Pan Leakage is very rare. If there's no spots on the ground and you're not adding oil frequently - let it go.
