what is battery saver device

"Battery Saver is off" appeared on the screen when I attempted to turn the key
in the ignition. Sound of clicking. Engine would not start.

Battery is dead, obviously. The "battery saver" is designed to turn off accessories after a preset time - and keep a battery from dying in case you forgot to turn something off. There should be a screen that allows you to turn it on/off. I'm not aware of a bad "battery saver" killing a batter - it's basically software. However you might need an update of the computer software. If you're under warranty may want to make an appointment to get it looked at, the dealer would upgrade you at no charge. They might do that even if you're out of warranty.
