1996 Seville STS Instrument Cluster No Display

Asked by SamFrank Oct 16, 2017 at 04:46 PM about the Cadillac STS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I haven't had Instrument Cluster Display lights for a few months now.  A couple of days ago, amazingly, they worked.  Now they don't again.  I've checked and all the fuses are good. Cigarette lighter always worked, brake lights, turn signal lights, and all other lights except for the instrument panel.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated especially since it's due for inspection soon!!

The lights on the panel you see only remain on for a few seconds. The only light that stays on is the seatbelt light until you put the seatbelt on of course.

Your instrument panel cluster is no good it does not the switch or or your fuse

Just curious why it had worked perfectly a few days ago? When it did work, it had worked for two days.

I used to work for Cadillac dealer as a mechanic in Gastonia North Carolina the problem with these cars are they actually had been a recall on them due to the instrument panel shortage inside of them we had to replace a whole lot of them

Guess I'll have to take it to a Cadillac dealer then. Do you have any idea of what it might cost me?

Hopefully it won't be more than we paid for the car. We had bought it used 6 years ago, and the problem with the instrument panel began June of 2016.

I recommend you not to go to the Cadillac dealer they're going to charge you an arm and a leg I recommend that you find it online or buy it from a junkyard and have someone install it for you if you go to the Cadillac dealer you going to be paying a lot out of your pocket

Just looked online and all I can find is analog, not digital like mine. Guess I'll just keep looking. Thanks so much for your help!! Really do appreciate it !!

you can't buy it from the Cadillac dealer but do not have them install it there are going to charge you a lot of money for installation

I'm guessing you meant to say that I "can" buy if from the Cadillac dealer, so I'll check into that for sure! I know a few good, trustworthy mechanics locally. Thanks again for taking the time to help lead me in the right direction!!
