Does the gmc sierra has a serial number or vin number in the motor?

Asked by wilmelava1 Dec 17, 2016 at 01:59 PM about the GMC Sierra 1500

Question type: General

Our gmc sierra 2016 was bought june 2016. Left in the dealership coz of paint
problem x 3 days. Brand new . We noticed that the motor was rusted and
while driving we felt it shakes. The exhaust has a lot of smoke coming out. We
have several cars but do not shake like this. They give us rent a car same car
it was running smoothly. Before we left the car to the dealership it was
running smoothly. Do you think they change the motor

This is the same dealership you bought it brand new from? I find it highly unlikely they stole your motor and put something else in there. There may be a sticker/code on the motor may contain the last 5 digits of the VIN, there are also casting numbers that will indicate build order/dates, that won't give you definitive proof but can show if the motor could or could not have come with the vehicle. FYI, exhaust headers and other cast iron pieces will always show a little rust, even in new vehicles, and "smoke" from the exhaust is likely water vapor, which will be more evident the colder outside it gets.
