08 tacoma trd supercharger|computer question

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 08 Tacoma trd with 4.0 liter 1grfe( or whatever it is) (not the x runner) with a blown up motor, and I'm about to replace the engine.  I found one w a supercharger , good price ...but seems I have to change out the computer too?  How much for that computer and is that right?  Motor I'm looking at has factory supercharger, and evidently because of that this issue arises?  any help appreciated...and how much xtra horses will I get if I do this?

Are both the same year (2008?) you might be able to just re-flash your existing computer. Check the replacement engine's harness, it is identical to your existing one? Does it have additional sensors/plugs? If so you may need to use that harness and computer. Could also check part numbers between the two computers, if they match then your good with your existing computer, if not, get the donor's. No matter what the computer will need to be flashed. Prices on engine computers can vary greatly, from 75-100 up to 300-350. Check on Ebay to get an idea. Obviously the most expensive place to get one if from the dealership. If you are negotiating to buy this engine, may want to grab the engine harness and associated computers too. Ideally, you may want to be able to access the donor vehicle during the swap, in case you need additional parts needed to make the swap work - it's hard to think of every little thing you'll need.

Check with Toyota. They sold the supercharger kits so they will know if there was a computer reflash required or not.
