2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible- trunk/deck issue

Asked by LordSean Apr 30, 2016 at 04:11 PM about the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Top is down on my 2008 Sebring convertible, but
deck/trunk will not latch when I close it so I am unable to
put the top back up. How can I fix this myself? Is this
something I have to take to my mechanic?

Unlock the trunk with your key. Unplug the motor under the decklid. Use a cordless tool battery with 14.4 v to hotwire the motor & reverse the motor. In my case, there was no power to the motor under the deck sliding mechanism

My trunk latch gets loose and misaligns with the hook. Bending the latch and tightening the bolts so the latch lines up with the hook should help it .

Sold my sebring several years ago. In my case the top halfway opened without notice & stopped with the decklid up & the top unlatched in the front. I disconnected the electrical connection at the twin screws under the decklid & used a cordless tool battery to reverse the decklid operation. The front had to be secured using an 8 point socket on the center rotating shaft.
