Boost problems

Question type: Car Customization

I've got an 87 turbo(the Z31 chassis), and I'm losing boost. It has an aftermarket bov, but it still has the erv(emergency release valve) on the intake plenum. I'm thinking it might be stuck open cause at the moment I'm only hitting about 4.5-5lbs, and I know from experience(had an 86 before) that they see 7lbs normally but can go up to 8 stock, which is when the erv activates. Should I just go ahead and junk it and plug the ERV hole?

No, not the waste gate, the emergency release valve on the intake plenum on the VG30ET engines. The turbo is a T3 style with an external wastegate, this is to releave atmospheric pressure from the intake manifold.

Plug the ERV but make sure the aftermarket BOV realeses at 10lbs because the air might flow back tu the turbo and damage it. Remember, the Z31 turbo (t25) is a thrust bearing turbo, it's more vulnerable to serious damage if it over heats or if it over spins. Make sure you check all the components from the turbo to the plenum for psi leaks and check the vacuum lines from the turbo too. Change that old plenum for a 3.3L Pathfinder, you're gonna feel the difference...good luck.

Your exhaust is blocked Probably the cat Cut it out or simply gut it then you will see full boost again
