Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 daytona shelby z with 13000 miles on it .The fuel pump will not start  running when key is in the on position,  and the gas gage goes backwards. The car turns over and  will fire up with either. Its been in storrage for a long time. How Can I check if it is a bad relay or bad fuel pump , or maybe a bad ground I would sure appreciate your input

got to fuse and relay box and check for current in verticle slots of fuel pump relay and run jumper wire between slots this will energize the fuel pump. If nothing happens with wire in place tap gas tank hard and see if that works. Sometimes when a pump sits very long it can use a jolt to get going. If that doesn;t work you will need a pump.
