2000 Volkswagen Jetta Key

I got a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta as a gift and only recieved
one key. Just the key without the fob to unlock and lock
the car. I see there is a fob sold on Amazon for my car but
I'm not sure if it will work and what I'll have to do get the
fob working. Unlocking and locking my car manually with
the key is getting annoying.

The new Fob has to be entered into the VWs computer system or it will NOT work or start the vehicle.unless you have a Vag-com or laptop set up with the Siemens software to enter the code the fee is approx $200

Hi Kiandra, I had a similar issue with my 2003 Jetta GSL. I bought it from a shop ( the owner and I have known each other for a couple of years from other projects) in which the owner didn't want to pay a bill for a shop call and released his pink interest. there was only one key given at time of bill. he didn't have a spare key either. Being that the car is over 10 years old I contacted the tax commission to contact the prior owner to get any back up keys. I was told to just deal with it and buy one from the dealer who can synch it!! and that price is about what AC just told you in the prior answer. good luck
