Immobilizer program with new key

Asked by Guru9NXJDR Jan 24, 2022 at 07:25 PM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500, someone broke into trying to steal it and broke
the ignition and the immobilizer. We purchased a steering wheel column with an
immobilizer from a junkyard.  We had a new key made for that ignition.  The
truck started but would just turn off now it won't start at all.  The dealership said
we need a new immobilizer but they are discontinued.  Any other way to get the
truck running?

The new key has a chip that needs matched to the vehicle security system. I would try a locksmith that can program the system. The fact that the rig won’t run tells me that the immobilizer works.

Chrysler Products need two working keys for you to be able to program additional keys to the vehicle yourself. If you don't have two working keys the new keys must be programmed to the vehicle by the Dealer or a qualified locksmith. Hope that helps! Jim
