Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 Ford Ranger as im driving to
work I stop at a stop sign with my foot on
the break and it’s jumping real bad. That’s
not the worst of it when I go to leave work
the truck wouldn’t even drive I check the
trans fluid and it’s very low so I add fluid it
drives again, I’m question is, if I add
transmission fluid could that fix the
problem I am having

1 Answer

Yes, the automatic tranny fluid being low will definitely cause the vehicle to experience as you describe. The most likely leak is the coolant lines that go between the transmission and the radiator. There is metal tubing which is connected by rubber hoses to allow for vibration or sudden movements. The rubber hoses and their worm type clamps are the first place to check for leaks. The good news is that this automatic transmission is very well designed and most likely it will perform perfectly if the fluid level is kept within the normal range.
