where do u check the transmission fluid at in a 1989 ford festiva

well if it's a manual transmission...there is a drain plug 'bout midway up the side of the transmission....if you can not touch the fluid with your finger...needs more~

Judge, if it's auto will it need to go to dealer like some or is their a dip stick near the firewall/passenger side..??
