Take it into a mechanic and have them run a diagnostic on the computer system. Hopefully this will tell them exactly what's wrong with your vehicle.
an 83 doesn't have a whole lot of computer diagnostics to check. you don't even need a code reader to find out what's ticking it off. sounds like you have loose grounds or battery connections. when the wire jostles and loses connection then gets it again, the car resters and all the lights come on but it happens so fast the engine keeps spinning from inertia through it.
