When shopping for a car how do I know if the car had water damage? Is it ok to buy a car that was in a flood?
Ask for a carfax. If one has been in a flood all the electrical components have been under water. You could see problems in a week ,month, or a year. Eventually everything that was under water will have to be replaced.
NJ DMV has a link on their website that will put you on a list of all vehicle identification numbers that were flood "victims". BUT the list is like carfax. Only vehicle identification numbers that had insurance claims filed against them will pop up. Carfax also only goes back to 1981. The DMV list is for all years, even antique and classic cars.
