2001 Chevy Silverado, why can't I turn off my windshield wipers?

Need help on this for exact same vehicle. Wiper on / off switch within the directional signal arm seems to have failed. Wipers won't shut off. Wiper fluid works as do directional signals but can't get the wipers to turn off unless I shut the truck off. HELP SOMEONE!!!
