2006 Silverado 4.8 Low Oil Pressure

Asked by GuruB5R6 Apr 09, 2017 at 09:36 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Silverado 4.8 L. Back in
October on the morning after  the first cold
night my oil pressure indicator alarm started
going off. Every morning since it has  gone
off. Gauge reflecting no oil pressure.   Once
you start driving 30 seconds the alarm
stops.  And the oil  pressure builds up  to 40
and  holds  the  rest  of  the  day.  On a  rare
occasion  it  has  randomly went off. I have
already replaced  the  oil  pressure sending
unit. Any  thoughts?

One thing to check is there may be a screen under the oil pressure sending unit that is plugged up, common problem. But they started that in 2007. If your truck was made later in the year in 2006, it is possible there may be one in that engine. It is just a matter of taking out the oil pressure sending unit and fishing out the screen. Replace it or clean it. If there is one in there you would have to ask for 2007 on years at the parts store.
