Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,

I have a 2001 Toyota Solara and my Catalytic and EVAP monitor are not ready,
does anyone know a method of making them both ready without the need of
driving hundred's of miles?

No. You have to drive for these to run. Drive for like 30 minutes at 55 mph. It’s what I do and I can get almost every monitor in one drive on most cars. Stay between 50 and 60 though. If the cat monitor doesn’t go after awhile, I have heard of times where the o2 sensors will pass their test but not enough to perform the cat monitor

The important thing is to keep your gas gauge between three quarters and one quarter full. Then just drive normally for a day or two. The catalytic converter readiness monitor will set under these conditions but the EVAP system monitor may not. That doesn't really matter because under Federal Law your vehicle will pass emissions inspection with one readiness monitor not set. It doesn't matter which one as long as all the other readiness monitors are set. The EVAP system monitor needs very specific conditions to set and is the most difficult to get to set so don't worry about that one. Hope that helps! Jim

Thanks for the answer, I’m currently in Texas so does this work for my state?

You're welcome. Glad to help! Absolutely, this law covers all 50 States. 1996 thru 99 models will pass with two readiness monitors not set and 2000 to current models will pass with one readiness monitor not set. Hope that helps! Jim
