Hesitation when accelerating
Asked by Melis1028 Jul 11, 2012 at 12:51 AM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have 01 Pontiac Grand Prix, the last couple weeks it's been
hesitating when accelerating. Spark plugs and wires just
replaced, new fuel filter replaced and injectors cleaned too. I
took it in today to and independent repair shop and he said
there were numerous codes for sensors etc. that showed up
so he needs more time/money to figure out exact problem,
but did mention possibly mass air flow sensor. What is the
average price to replace mass air flow sensor? I don't want to
be taken advantage for repairs as I have experienced before.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Price of a MAF will run you around $170, more if the garage marks up the part like they usually do. But suggest they clean it before replacing, as there are filaments in the air flow which detect the amount of air entering the engine, these get dirty and can effect the air/fuel mixture and driveability. You can clean these yourself, puchasing a can of solvent CRC Mass air flow cleaner. Search online, www.youtube.com to give you an idea of how to go about doing it.
