My 2002 Pontiac grand am has problems with its steering. It is hard to keep it in the lane as it shifts left and right when driving straight. When i drive it around turns and curves, the steering wheel wont register for a few seconds causing it to go straight. Does anyone know what this could be?

There are a few possible factors that could have come into play 1: when was the last time u changed your fluid what happens is over time the pump internals will clog up and then seize, as well if the fluid is really old it wears out and the chemicals break down 2: the belt could be worn out or broken 3: you could also have an air lock some were in the power steering lines.
