Most likely the transmission needs overhauled or replaced, so it all depends on the overall condition of the car, if it is prestine and looks like it has been pampered all its life then by all means have it repaired, but if it is really starting to show its age, dents and dings, upholstery and carpets worn out, maybe some of the systems no longer work right, high miles then it's time to move on, and it is an 11 year old vehicle that they no longer make. But as always the final choice is yours.
shoes is right. Ask how much it would take to do a transmission repair and if they don't do it right the first time junk the car. You can always pull out the good parts and sell it to other grand am owners you know.
