Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so I would keep having to put
antifreeze in the over flow cuz it kept
getting hot. So one day I was driving
and I forgot to put the cap back on my
overflow and I drove it about 3-5 miles
and the needle kept getting hotter and
hotter and I then heard some kind of
noise, the best way I can describe the
noise is like heavy chains rubbing
together. The needle never made it to
the red on the temp gauge, mind you
and got home opened my hood saw I
forgot the cap and let it cool down and
filled up the overflow with antifreeze
and now its leaking from underneath
somewhere and will not stay filled up.
Right when I put the anti freeze its
immediately leaks it out. Plz plz help!

You should not need to continually fill the radiator overflow tank and leaving the cap off the tank should only result in loss of coolant, not a catastrophic failure. It sounds like the problem is related to how your cooling system is functioning. If you are not capable of tackling the diagnosis yourself, take it to a reputable shop so they can diagnose the problem. It could be as simple as a bad radiator cap or as significant as a water pump or radiator failure.
